Summer’s still a few months away here in Australia, but I’d still like to share a little game from Lemur Software called Bobble Surfer [App Store]. Ever since the Commodore 64′s California Games and even the dead and buried Atari Lynx remake of the same game, never before has surfing been implemented so well in a videogame. Graphically, it is very charming – with a subtle mix of 2D and 3D elements.
You’re the little man taking on the big kahuna. Mix it up with the iPhone’s accelerometer and you’ve got yourself a fun little app. The Surfing School shows you how to carve it up on the waves, and a global ranking system keeps you coming back to the tube. Unlockable locations and crazy combos make for a *cough* gnarly ride. Hopefully future updates will give you options to change the look of your surfer or add a few extra boards.
Surfs Up! 3.5 stars.
This game is nice, I played it a lot, but there are many more better games than this one.
