Jet Car Stunts from TrueAxis

Jet Car Stunts

Jet Car Stunts [App Store]

Aussie game developer TrueAxis come blasting out of the podium with Jet Car Stunts. Best described as an over the top, adrenaline rush of 3d racing.

Part platformer, part insanity, the tracks you race on (36 in total and growing we hope) are all linked from start to finish with ridiculous ramps, mid air hoops and platforms, oh did I mention the spiral speedways?

Graphically, the game is superb and you can only say that it is vertigo inducing. The gameplay ties into the visuals and is simply magnificent. You really do get a sense of speed. The track layouts kept us guessing what they are gonna throw at us next, how big is the next jump, where do you want me to land the car, etc.

Gameplay

The simple concept of the game is a no brainer – supercharged rocket car meets stunt track! Get to other side in one piece. It’s an easy concept to digest and leaves enough room for the hardcore crowd to master. Control wise it’s also a fun experience, tilt to go left or right, virtual buttons for brakes and nitrous. The drift factor round every possible bend reminds me of yesteryear Mario Kart precision. Put this whole package together and I think we have a winner!

This game has enough nos left to give us 2 modes – platforming and time trial. With Platform, you must finish a level from point A to B (not as easy at it sounds). Time trial, as its name suggests sees you playing on the same levels with time restraints. OpenFeint support for added achievement goodness.

This will easily go a mile! 4.5 stars.

Ghosts’N Goblins Gold Knights

Ghosts’N Goblins Gold Knights [App Store]

My how things have changed. I have played every incarnation of Ghosts ‘N Goblins since feeding that 20c piece into the arcade cabinet at the local fish and chip shop. I spent my days off at Las Vegas Arcade watching the little knight jump over tombstones. I know Arthur quite intimately, so when the iPhone version dropped on the App Store, I raised my sword high and rejoiced! I was actually excited once again. I had the very same feeling you get when pass a tough level, finally finish your favorite game. I wasn’t prepared for what lie within.

Nick Chase: A Detective Story

Nick Chase: A Detective Story [App Store]

There are plenty of mystery games emerging lately on the iPhone and while some are well written with a deep narrative, others do not have any story whatsoever. Fortunately, Nick Chase: A Detective Story falls in to the former camp. This puzzler plays like its namesake and stays true to the film noir genre. You are Nick Chase, a private investigator – down on his luck and out of a job. That is of course, until HE arrives. The man known as The Collector (cliched I know). You work through various hidden clues and puzzles to uncover the mystery behind a lost manuscript by Leonardo Di Vinci. Think Where In The World Is Carmen Sandiego mixed with Dan Brown’s best seller.
