Rummage

Rummage [App Store]

I’m an all round type of guy; in gaming, I can get my box on with the best of them. Kill, crush and destroy is my gaming mantra. In the list of apps on my iPhone, I’ll admit, very few of them do I have to think too much about. No-brainers I guess you’d call them.

There are times though, when I want to think things out before I make the next move, a sense of einstein satisfaction if you must call it for something “fresh”.

With the new update of Rummage V1.2, CFresh gave me a new reason to rehash this old favourite of mine. I call it a “Diction puzzle game”. Its the single game I feel compelled to whoop my wife on. She is the current “Queen Of Logic/Puzzle games” as much as it pains me to admit.

The basis of Rummage is similar to that of other word puzzle games, where you must find the listed words going in multiple directions and has plenty of tiles to move around. For some people, it is these games which can convince them to buy Iphone 4 or other smartphones, over phones without such advanced gaming capabilities. Rummage is certainly one example of the former and will provide you with a good number of game dilemmas to contemplate. Is it the right move or should I hold off for a multiword score? Its moreso the strategy behind finding the word rather than vocab? You play for points and play for the best times, I play for respect. Its worth more to me.

Graphically its a simplistic affair. Nothing flashy but it is laid out very nicely. The tiles aren’t too small to touch, also not too in your face as well. Overall polish is actually well done and kudos to the dev for keeping it modern but simple. I get a kick out of hearing the tiles breakup each time I submit a word… simple pleasures I guess.

The new update brings a few minor tweaks to the formula and takes full advantage of the iPhone’s accelerometer from “shaking” to refresh the tiles to rotating the device to spell. New secret words, more puzzles to stump the genius in everyone and even more OpenFeint achievements!

Overall this is still one of my favourite logic games on the iPhone. Yes, there is a lot of them in the App Store, but many are too easy with a bunch of flair, and some are to say the least, plain stupid. Weeding through them all, I can only name a handful of decent ones. I’m hoping for a survival mode in the next update that will bring a countdown for random word find. That would take this game up yet another level of brainiac achievement. But as it stands, Rummage is simplistic yet fresh.

Less flair, more awesome. 4 stars.

Wow, that is a great review. I’m glad the folks that play it are really getting into it!

You guys should update the OpenFeint Rummage Achievement page to reflect the changes since v1.2. Also, FYI, Rummage Lite (free) now also has OpenFeint support and has a few unique Achievements of its own.
